It is a nutrient found in vegetables and fruits, particularly leafy greens like spinach and kale. Lutein acts as an antioxidant, protecting cells against the damage caused by free-radicals, highly unstable forms of oxygen. Lutein is highly concentrated in the macula which is the part of the eye that’s responsible for central vision.
